Jim discusses a significant shift in his long-held stance on "buy lists" for Amazon FBA sellers, a topic he previously cautioned against for over 15 years. He introduces a vetted buy list service, emphasizing that while it meets his stringent standards, it is not an "easy button" and requires foundational selling skills like Keepa chart analysis. This episode helps Amazon sellers understand when and how to leverage curated product sourcing lists effectively, stressing the importance of prior experience.
Key takeaways
Understand that 'buy lists' are not for beginners; foundational skills like Keepa chart analysis and independent product research are essential before considering them.
Recognize that even with a vetted buy list service, individual due diligence and experience are crucial to avoid pitfalls and ensure profitability.
Investigate 'OA Cheddar' if you are an experienced Amazon seller looking for a potentially reliable product sourcing service that meets high standards.
Prioritize learning how to spot profitable replenishable products and understanding Amazon selling mechanics independently before relying on third-party product recommendations.
Use vetted services as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, your own developed sourcing and analysis skills.
In the 15 years that we've been teaching Amazon selling strategy in the ProvenAmazonCourse.com course, I've never endorsed a "buy list" As of today, my opinion of "buy lists" HAS NOT changed at all, and I still say AVOID THEM UNLESS YOU ARE VERY EXPERIENCED...but I have FINALLY found a company that has high enough standards that I feel comfortable endorsing them for those who are positioned to use what they provide. For those who don't know, a "buy list" is simply a list of products (aka Amazon ASIN's) that someone else researched for you that they suggest might be good products to purchase and sell on Amazon. It's not an "easy button" however. If you are a brand new seller, you absolutely MUST learn how to read a keepa chart and learn how to spot a good replen on your own (that's what we teach in the ProvenAmazonCourse). Today's new podcast episode is NOT a simple shortcut path into easy success. That being said, I do feel like I've found a great "buy list" solution that has high enough standards that I'm truly excited to share it with you and share the conversation I had with a very successful seller who not only runs a great buy list, but he has a robust, profitable Amazon business as well!
