Sanjana Sharma of Lucy Kitty Jewelry shares her journey from a purely online approach to leveraging in-person shows to build her brand and understand customer needs. This episode highlights how direct customer interaction and a willingness to adapt strategies can be crucial for early-stage e-commerce businesses to gain traction and fuel growth. It emphasizes the importance of an omnichannel approach, even for businesses that started online, to truly connect with customers and iteratively improve products.
Key takeaways
Don't rely solely on an 'if you build it, they will come' mentality for online stores; actively seek out sales channels that bring you directly to customers, such as in-person markets.
Utilize direct customer interactions at events to gather invaluable feedback on customer preferences, product appeal, and motivations for purchase, informing future product development and marketing.
Embrace an omnichannel strategy by integrating offline sales channels to complement online efforts, especially for products where physical interaction enhances customer understanding and brand connection.
Be prepared to iterate and adapt your business strategy based on real-world customer engagement and market feedback, rather than adhering strictly to initial assumptions.
Translate learned information and insights into concrete execution plans to effectively drive business growth and overcome entrepreneurial challenges.
Today's guest is Sanjana Sharma. She first started her business from the corner of her bedroom and like most first-time eCommerce entrepreneurs she thought… if I build it they will come. Luckily it didn’t take her too long to figure out how that wasn’t at all the case and she took the plunge into in-person shows. While that was exhausting and backbreaking work it really helped her build the foundation of her business and understand what her customer needs and why they love her jewelry. This growth hasn’t come without it’s challenges though and she’s made plenty of mistakes along the way - just like the rest of us. What really impresses me about her is the way she takes in information and just gets down to business with a plan on how to execute it in her business. _______ Full Episode Show Notes
